What is men’s hormone replacement therapy?
Men’s hormone replacement therapy is a method of restoring testosterone levels in men who have low testosterone (low T). All men lose testosterone as they age, with recent research suggesting that testosterone levels may decline by 1-2% every year after the age of 30. We are also finding that men in their 20s and 30s suffer from symptoms of low T and need help.
Testosterone is extremely important for many reasons. The hormone plays a major role in sexual function, muscle mass, bone density, and many other aspects of health and wellness.
Hormone replacement therapy helps men avoid the unpleasant and frustrating effects of low T. The most common (and generally most effective) method of hormone replacement therapy for men is injections that bring your testosterone back to healthy levels. Other options, although not as effective as injections, also exist, including topical creams and patches.
Erectile Dysfunction
What is erectile dysfunction?
Erectile dysfunction is the inability to attain and keep an erection, preventing you from having satisfactory sexual intercourse. That can lead to other damaging effects, including relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, and poor self-esteem.
Erectile dysfunction is, in many cases, a silent marker for cardiovascular disease. So, by treating erectile dysfunction early, you could potentially prevent cardiovascular disease and live a longer and healthier life.
What causes erectile dysfunction?
Age is often a contributor to erectile dysfunction. That happens because you produce less and less testosterone (the hormone that plays a huge role in sexual function) as you age — after the age of 30, your total testosterone production decreases steadily by up to 2% each year.
That helps to explain why erectile dysfunction incidence increases by 10% per decade of life. For example, 50% of men over 50 have erectile dysfunction, and that rises to 60% after age 60.
Aside from age, many different lifestyle factors, habits, and health factors can contribute to erectile dysfunction. A few of the different physical contributors can include excess weight, diabetes, sleep disorders, enlarged prostate gland, high cholesterol, and atherosclerosis.
Emotions and mental health can also play a role in erectile dysfunction. Difficulties within the relationship outside the bedroom can also creep into the bedroom to cause erectile difficulties.
How is erectile dysfunction treated?
There are many different approaches to erectile dysfunction, ranging from psychotherapy to oral medications to surgery like penile implants.
Premier Wellness offers oral medications such as Viagra, Sildenafil, and Tadalafil, and testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) because it’s one of the most successful methods of treating not only erectile dysfunction but also a host of other symptoms and issues.
After initial exam and comprehensive labwork, we will develop a personalized treatment plan to optimize your sexual and physical health.
By returning your testosterone levels to those that match your younger years, you can expect:
- Improved erections
- More stamina
- Higher libido
- More energy
- Reduced body fat
- Improved muscle mass
- Stronger bones
- More confidence
The most effective method of testosterone therapy is injections, which go straight into your bloodstream to start normalizing your hormone levels. Other methods, like patches and creams, may also be an option for testosterone replacement therapy.
